TikTok: Media Literacy

Project Period 6 months
(1 March - 31 August 2025)

The “Media Literacy” project is a collaboration between the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s Education Department (BMA), Saturday School Foundation (SSF), and TikTok. Our goal is to promote media literacy and foster the safe and creative use of social media among middle school students. The project focuses on building critical media analysis skills and encouraging students to become responsible media consumers and creators.

Activities and Project Highlights

  1. Online Course on the BMA Learning Hub: We developed a 4-chapter online course for students, covering essential topics for safe digital media usage:
    • Chapter 1: Privacy
    • Chapter 2: Misinformation
    • Chapter 3: Youth Mental Health & Wellbeing
    • Chapter 4: Cyberbullying
  2. The course features video clips created in collaboration with four prominent TikTok influencers: Sayamo, SaySci, Watalooknung, and Yes iam Dart, making the content more engaging and relatable for students.
  3. Two-Phase School Tour: Our team visited five BMA-affiliated schools to introduce the online course and encourage participation. The program engaged over 500 students from Wat Ang Kaew School, Prachanukul School, Ritthinarongron School, Wat Ladprao School, and Thainiyomsongkhro School.
    • Phase 1: We introduced the course and administered a pre-test.
    • Phase 2: We returned to conduct a post-test to measure learning outcomes and held a workshop where students could experience being TikTok Creators, creating their own video clips. The four TikTok influencers also joined us in person to meet and guide the students.
  4. Project Wrap-up at TikTok Office: We organized an Impact Showcase at the TikTok office to feature the students’ video creations. This provided an opportunity for the students to meet and interact with the TikTok influencers who had been part of the project.

Project Outcomes and Impact

  • Students’ post-test scores showed a significant increase.
Over 45 video clips were created by the students.
  • The total views for student-created videos exceeded 80,000.
